The JePPIX Pilot Line has been set up to bridge the gap from prototype (TRL4) to product (TRL8-9) for indium phosphide based photonic integration technology. This is done by offering a generic integration platform, which is, by extensive process characterization and standardized basic building block testing, optimized for robustness, reproducibility and yield. A seamless integration of process and building block data into photonic design automation tools leads to manufacturing-grade process design kits. The Pilot Line is being validated by experienced industrial partners. I will discuss how the Pilot Line can support businesses to scale their ideas to volume production.
Martijn Heck is a Full Professor at the Photonic Integration Group at Eindhoven University of Technology. He obtained his PhD from this university in 2008, and consequently worked as postdoc at the Free University Amsterdam, NL (2008 – 2009), and the University of California Santa Barbara, USA (2009 – 2013). From 2013 to 2020, he was Associate Professor at Aarhus University, DK, setting up and leading a group on photonic integration, before joining TU/e in 2020. His research interests are in photonic integration, using indium phosphide, silicon and silicon nitride photonics, including the hybrid and heterogeneous integration thereof, for applications in communications, microwave and terahertz photonics, metrology, and quantum technology.
