PRESENTATION

Pockels-enhanced silicon photonics

Controlling light with electrical signals is one of the most critical functional building blocks when realizing advance photonic integrated circuits. These blocks are required as high-speed modulators for communication, efficient tuning elements for sensing, and low-loss cross-connects for optical switches. Lumiphase’s Pockels switching technology provides a new solution to perform electro-optical switching with benefits in cost, speed, transparency window, power-consumption, and footprint compared to standard silicon solutions. Our products use the most efficient Pockels material known today embedded in silicon photonic circuits. During the presentation, I will cover Lumiphase’s Pockels technology and how it impacts advanced photonic circuits and chips.

Dr. Stefan Abel is Co-founder and Co-CEO of Lumiphase AG and driving the development and commercialization of Lumiphase’s innovative Pockels switching technology. Previously, Stefan spent more than 10 years at IBM where he invented new optical phase shifters based on ultra-efficient electro-optical materials integrated with standard silicon photonic products. At IBM, he was leading the R&D activities and client interactions on Pockels modulators and developed multiple new applications in the fields of optical communication, novel photonic computing, and sensing with light.
